Are you hesitant to invest in an electric truck while the technology is still relatively new? One effective way of reducing any perceived risk is through a service contract. By freeing yourself of the responsibility for any unexpected breakdowns and repairs, you can make the transition to electric with complete peace of mind.

Electric trucks represent a huge paradigm shift for many people working in the transport industry. Companies that have worked with internal combustion engines for decades are now faced with completely new technologies: and with that, comes uncertainty. Are electric trucks reliable? How do you maintain them? Who is qualified to repair them?

With a Gold Service Contract for Electric Trucks, you do not need to worry about any perceived risk that comes with making the transition to new technology. Any faults or teething problems become our responsibility

“With a service contract, you don’t need to worry about any of these questions,” says Jiin lih Andersson, Director Product & Pricing, Service Contracts, Volvo Trucks. “Instead, Volvo Trucks takes on all the practicalities and gives you everything you need to keep your truck operational, so that you can focus on your business.

How does the Gold Service Contract for Electric Trucks work?

The Gold Service Contract for Electric Trucks works the same way as Volvo Trucks’ standard Gold Contract, but has been adapted to cover the new components that make up the electric driveline, including the electric motor and energy storage system. Any issues or breakdowns will be handled by fully-trained technicians who are up to date with the latest technologies and certified to work with high-voltage applications. They only use Genuine Volvo Parts and have access to the specialized equipment, tools and training required to complete all repair work correctly. Much of this expertise cannot be matched by independent workshops, many of which are less familiar with electromobility technology.

“This all means you do not need to worry about any perceived risk that comes with making the transition to new technology. Any faults or teething problems become our responsibility,” says Jiin lih.

The overall aim of the Gold Service Contract for Electric Trucks is worry-free ownership. We’ll take care of all the practicalities, so you can focus on running your business.

How a service contract improves uptime

Another feature of Gold Contracts is Volvo Trucks’ Monitoring service, which enables preventive maintenance that is tailored to the specific usage of the truck. Using the truck’s built-in connectivity functions, the vehicle is monitored around the clock remotely by the Volvo Trucks Uptime Center.

“This enables us to schedule services when needed, as well as letting us predict and prevent breakdowns from occurring,” says Jiin lih.

The service covers an electric truck’s batteries, one of the most critical components in an electric driveline. Volvo Trucks can track the health and energy usage levels of the vehicle’s batteries in real time, and plan possible battery repairs and replacements exactly at the right moment. Since Volvo Trucks knows the maximum energy that any given customer needs, we can act if the minimum useable energy reaches certain levels earlier than expected. If this happens, a dealership can inform the customer and schedule a workshop visit to make any necessary adjustments. With this feature, Volvo Trucks ensures that you always have the battery capacity required for your vehicle.
