In an extensive test conducted by Trucker, the FH Aero was shown to deliver up to a 5% reduction in fuel consumption*, as well as a superior driving experience. We take a look at what lies behind the results.

Transport companies face the challenge of reducing operating costs without compromising performance and reliability. The new Volvo FH Aero with I-Save addresses this directly: with an aerodynamically optimized front, state-of-the-art engine technology, and innovative assistance systems, it reduces fuel consumption and provides an even more economical transport solution*. Trucker magazine decided to put the Volvo FH Aero with I-Save to the test and measure this; here’s how it delivered.

Reimagined Aerodynamics: More Range, Less Resistance
With its 24 cm extended front, the Volvo FH Aero makes optimal use of new EU length regulations. The airflow is strategically directed around the cab, significantly reducing air resistance. The result: less energy loss, lower consumption, and reduced CO2 emissions*.

Full Power with Less Consumption
Under the hood of the Volvo FH Aero 500 with I-Save, proven Volvo technology is combined with innovation:

  • 500 hp & 2800 Nm torque through turbo compound technology, which harnesses excess exhaust energy and directly converts it into power.
  • 12-speed I-Shift automatic transmission for smooth gear changes and optimized efficiency.
  • Intelligent engine management that adjusts consumption in real-time.

The test results speak for themselves: with an average consumption of just 23.49 l/100 km, the Volvo FH Aero tops the consumption charts, surpassing its nearest predecessor by an impressive 4.47%.

A modern truck needs not only to be efficient, but also comfortable and safe. The Volvo FH Aero makes no compromises:

  • Quieter than ever – only 60 dB(A) at 85 km/h, described by Trucker as "raising the bar" for combustion engines.
  • Dynamic Steering – electro-hydraulic steering assistance for maximum precision and driving comfort.
  • Camera Monitor System – digital mirrors improve visibility and eliminate blind spots.
  • Ergonomic driver’s cabin – spacious interior with a Globetrotter cab for long distances.

Testers particularly praised the sharp display of the digital mirrors, which further enhances driving comfort. However, it does require some getting used to when maneuvering – a point that will be further optimized in future generations.

Who is the Volvo FH Aero 500 with I-Save right for?
This model is specifically designed for long-distance transport, where its aerodynamic advantages pay off the most. For those driving shorter distances, the standard model remains an economical alternative. But for everyone looking to reduce operating costs, lower CO₂ emissions, and enjoy the highest driving comfort, the Volvo FH Aero is the perfect option.
